One Word 2011…

my friend Alece, over at has taken the initiative to encourage her readers and online community to choose one word, one simple, powerful word in place of a New Year’s Resolution. one word to focus on. one word to hold on to. one word to keep you going. one word to remind you of what had been purposed for this year.

my word, interestingly enough is

1: marked by firm determination
2: bold; steady
much like: decisive, do-or-die, firm, hell-bent, intent, purposeful, resolved, set, single-minded.

i don’t discuss my fight often. i have no room to complain really. it chose me and i chose it back. but i have been engaged in a battle unfit for a lady. a battle with a system, a resolute system, determined to remind me that it is a disease which may not be curable. a flawed system, built of steel, has left me bruised and my muscles worn and weary. but oh, that i be resolute, bold and steady, fit and ready, watchful and patient, sober and resilient… facing this year with strength fortified in His truth and wisdom infiltrated with His brilliance.
  • that i be resolute when i am feeling alone and tempted to compromise just to gain companionship.
  • that i be resolute when i am feeling weak and tempted to submit just to find some relief.
  • that i be resolute when i am feeling impatient and tempted to acquiesce and orchestrate another path.
  • that i be resolute when i am feeling hopeless and tempted to succumb and give up on myself.
  • that i be resolute when i am feeling overwhelmed and tempted to concede and run away from it all.
  • that i be resolute when i am feeling ostracized and tempted to comply and just shut up already.
that i be resolute on behalf of what just may come of it,
what just may await on the other side of it,
what just may be in need of it…
this year i have resolved to be Resolute.

“Keep your eyes open, hold tight to your convictions, give it all you’ve got, be resolute,

and love without stopping.”

I Corinthians 16:13-14

lol! i’m feeling something kinda fierce my friend, but at the same time i’m feeling vulnerable and tenderhearted. it’s not easy to stay tender while engaged in battle, but it’s necessary. Love you! read your One Word last night. looking forward to commenting today.

  4. this is beautiful, JK. the mental picture i get when i hear the word “resolute” is one of strength, stability, fortitude. unmoving. firmly planted. anchored. i see you digging your heels down deeper into God and His truth so that no matter how bad the storm gets, you won’t loose your footing in Him.

great focus for your year, friend. i’m grateful i get to watch from the sidelines…

May the Lord impart the strength to be resolute in all those ways in all of us!

  7. Love it. I keep noticing how other people’s words over lap. Like with yours we all must be resolute in even seeking to live out our own word.
