Innovation in Service: Laundry Love

as i am personally beginning to make my return to organized ideas and team efforts, i decided that it would be a fine time to also utilize this blogging space to do the same. each week i will feature an innovative idea of service that is spreading love and restoring hope. the purpose of this is to both be a support to these ideas and to be a support to you in your quest to bring innovation to your world. feel free to message the Tither of Innovation Facebook Page with your ideas for future featured posts.

Laundry Love – Santa Ana

Who is Laundry Love Santa Ana?

We are a coalition of non profits, churches, social entrepreneurs, businesspeople, artists and dreamers joined together by a desire to listen to the needs of Santa Ana and respond accordingly.

What is a Laundry Love Project?

Laundry Love Projects (LLPs) are regular opportunities to help people who are struggling financially by assisting them with doing their laundry. Relationships are built, and LLPs become small communities of common concern in which participants often find that they receive assistance and benefit with other areas of their lives.

For those living below the poverty line, washing clothes presents both a logistical problem and a financial hardship. From a conversation with a local homeless friend who conveyed this basic need, the Laundry Love Project™ (LLP) was birthed.

Laundry Love Projects partner with local laundromats in cleaning the clothes of those living in shelters, motels, cars, garages and on the streets. It is our mission to take laundromats and convert them into hubs of relief, granting reprieve to those living in oppressive poverty through aid in education, basic medical care and assistance in job and housing placement.

LLP is open source, which allows us to assist others to start these localized efforts for the “one” throughout the US.*

    Thanks for highlighting Laundry Love!

Just to provide a little more personalized information for your other readers:

I have been involved with the Santa Ana location for about a year now and it’s amazing! We meet on the 3rd Thursday of every month and are able to provide a safe haven for a night to families and individuals who are often overlooked. Doing laundry is such a simple and tangible way to make a huge impact in their lives. It’s an easy way to show them that we do see them, that they are cared for, and that they are loved.
The best thing about Laundry Love is the relationships that are built over time with people that return each month. Myself and all of the volunteers involved have developed meaningful relationships with them. We learn their stories, we laugh together, we play with their kids, and we worry about them throughout the month when it rains and when it’s so cold at night. They have become our friends. We have even had some people that we used to serve now volunteering alongside us and serving others!
One of my friends that we serve told me that we make him feel like a king when he is with us each month. I think that’s what this is all about.

It would be amazing to see more Laundry Love locations getting started. If you’re local, we would love more volunteers at our Santa Ana location, or get a group of people together and start your own!

  1. Thanks for the write up! Starting Laundry Love Santa Ana has been an incredible opportunity to really connect with those who are hurting. Tangible needs are met, but a lot more happens under the surface.

Hope you can make it out sometime!

you are more than welcome. it is my hope that readers will be inspired to get involved in some way. i got a few messages from people that used to save their quarters for Laundry Love a while back, but for one reason or another had stopped. they have committed to start back up again. i’d love to come out in the near future. working in LA makes it difficult getting to Santa Ana, but not impossible:)
